S2000 with edge

This S2000 might be the most interesting car that I saw at Gatebil for various reasons. Others might beg to differ, but this is a personal thing. I used to be a convertible driver and I’ve always had a weak spot for the Honda S2000 over the years. Whenever I see a cool S2K project I repeatedly fall in love over and over again and wish that one day I will drive one myself. However I’m always entertained when I see another owner enjoying his or her project and therefore I’d like to tell you a little story about Dennis Häggblom, the proud owner and builder of this particular Honda. Dutch Wangan Weaponry – A menacing BCNR33

The Wangan. The Bayshore route. The C1 loop. That one stretch of tarmac that pushes the imagination of those who’ve never been there to its limits. A piece of highway where legends are born and boundaries only exist to be broken. People often ask us why we call ourself Wangan Warriors. Well, see it as an homage to that legendary piece of road in Tokyo because let’s be honest. It doesn’t matter where you’re from, the real 湾岸 is that stretch of black gold in downtown 東京! Work in progress: Go big or go home!

Rocky Auto, Star Road, Mizuno Works. Just some names that should ring a bell when it comes to restoring classic JDM machinery. Especially Rocky Auto is known for it’s wild engine and drivetrain conversions. But it’s not “just” the Japanese that know what they are doing when it comes to crazy builds. In the first article I gave you a sneak peek about what DBM engineering has in store for this ’71 KGC-10 “Hakosuka” but now it’s time to reveal how unique this project really is! Continue reading

Cruising, BBQ’ing and a barn full of awesome

Become a photographer they said! It will be fun they said! Well to be honest, for about 99% of the time it is fun. But as always some gigs, shoots, days are better then   others. So when I got an invite from Kees “street race” Reijne to join him for a BBQ with his buddies in their barn, I knew that this would be one of those Saturdays that would be just a “little” better than your average Saturday! Dare to be different: Murat’s Mazda RX7 FD

As I started writing the story about this Mazda, a couple of questions went through my mind. Why are some people so deeply in love with cars? Does the technology make our hearts beat faster? Did the initial impression of a certain make or model win our souls forever? Is it because we identify ourselves through some form of materialism? Or are we just funny creatures who don’t know better because everybody around us are petrolheads through and through? For me it started with a general interest for the automotive world when my friends started a car club called Wangan Warriors. My interest became both passion and love from the moment I started to capture other peoples stories with a little black box called a camera. From that point, my heart actually did beat faster when I encountered something exciting or experienced something unreal. Continue reading

Orange is the new black

There are days when your sitting at home, watching some stupid series about a few women in prison who think they don’t belong there, orange is the new black or something, and all of a sudden you realize that you’re bored out of your mind. I mean, who watches that crap anyway?
So what do you do? In my case I posted a shout out on my FB page if anyone had something decent to shoot and the first to reaction was a clear one from Jeroen at DBM engineering. “You have my phone number, don’t be a p*ssy and call!”
Needless to say I made the call… Continue reading

Aaron’s delightful EK4

It’s time for the general Honda Civic owner to pay attention here for a few minutes. Keep in mind that I can’t guarantee that there won’t be any form of jealousy generated by looking at this EK4 because I’m about to showcase a beauty. We already knew that the British scene has some absolute showstoppers to offer and I can only point out that I’m happy that so many of them decide to cross the puddle to visit our events. I’ve been following this EK since we covered Hondafest earlier this year and contacted the owner so that we could do a photoshoot the next time we meet. Continue reading

Weekend Wallpaper: A Drifthunts illustration

This week we have something a little different for our wallpaper item. I always have my eyes open for other peoples creativity and I’m constantly looking around on the photopages of other photographers to see what they’re up to. Sometimes it’s just inspiring for myself to better my photography and sometimes it might be a new page or website I visit regularly for some fresh entertainment. Continue reading

Happy 8-6 day: The classic VS the classic to be?

Hachiroku. Initial D. Keichi Tsuchiya. Just some numbers/words/names to some, the start of a life dedicated to drifting for others. Introduced in 1983 it was the last of the rear wheel drive corollas and proved to be pretty popular amongst car enthusiasts and not just amongst drifters as it’s been just in a European GT classes, Japanese and US Group A and N classes and even proved a popular chassis for rallying.
But alas, like I said it was the last of the RWD corollas and although Toyota still proved to be capable of building iconic sports cars like the Supra or MR2 it took some time before they would develop a new, affordable front engined, rear wheel driven sportscar.
