Indeed they can! The Camaro pictured above actually won that event. Both S-Chassis pictured are powered by GM Corvette pushrod LS family V8s. In Formula D, V8 is just about the only engine option anymore as not running one puts you at a disadvantage. The amount of power they can generate even without forced induction is absurd, allowing for on demand changes in attitude and helps them run most courses without even having to change gears, providing another advantage.

As far as muscle cars themselves go, being American I can't help but have an affinity for them, so I've got loads of pictures of them as well. Even though at night my head rests on Nissan.
